Now that FL has permitless carry. Do we really need to bother getting a CWL anymore? I mean, what’s the point?

My daughter and my granddaughters live in Georgia. To go from the panhandle to Georgia I have to drive through Alabama.

I think - operative word here being think - that in Georgia, since they no longer require a permit, I can carry even though I come from Florida.

But in Alabama I cannot. Only Alabama residents can carry without a permit. But Alabama recognizes the Florida permit.

So for the two and a half hours each way that I am in the state of Alabama, as long as I got my Florida permit in my wallet I am legal.

And just in case I am wrong about Georgia letting me carry even though I am not a Georgia resident, my Florida permit is recognized so I can carry in Georgia while I'm visiting.

That makes it worth it to me.

Something else I just thought of. I believe that the permitless carry only applies to handguns. My concealed weapons permit (because it is not a concealed handgun permit, it is a concealed weapons permit) allows me to carry a switchblade. Or a blackjack. Or brass knuckles. Or more than a dozen different weapons. All legal because I have a CWP. If I don't have that CWP, the only thing that's legal is a pistol.

Something else I just thought of. If I wish to buy a new pistol, and I have a permit, I take that new pistol home with me.

If I don't have a permit - it sits in the store for 3 days.

I don't like waiting periods.

For me yes a concealed license is worth it. I have no desire for anyone to know that I'm carrying. And consider this, if you are carrying owb and your shirt covers it you are now concealed. And I agree with Alpo I don't like waiting for my guns

If you travel out of state it is. As long as there is reciprocity. Lots of states that are constitutional carry still require non residents to possess a valid CCW permit from there home state. Make sure you check if the state or states have reciprocity for your CCW. Some states will also issue Non-Resident CCW. I belong to a hunt club on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and have retained a non-resident permit for Maryland so I am covered from the Florida-GA-South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
