Unusual .45 ACP Bullets

A friend inherited some older .45 ACP reloads from an old-timer (now gone) reloader friend; and, the bullets in the cartridges are some I have never run across in my years of reloading – perhaps someone in this forum can offer an identification, re: manufacturer, model, weight, etc. The bullets have 6 vertical slots that seem to run from near the base to near the tip, but the tip is solid; and, I don't want to pull one to weigh it. Seems like it was developed for rapid and serious expansion – anyone have experience with, or know the history of, them?

Not seen those but look similar to federal guard dogs

They do seem to share some similar characteristics, but not quite identical - might be an early or late version, or a copycat model. I might get my friend to shoot a few into jugs of water, to try and capture some expanded bullets, to see if they are polymer inside.
