Going to purchase a short barrel 6 shot revolver in 357, thoughts on S&W K frames or Ruger GP100.

None of my K frames are short barrel, however I do have a short 686 (L frame) which is really easy to shoot .357. I also have a short Ruger Security Six which also is accurate and comfortable, as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I have rather large hands, so I look for a larger grip.
If you're looking for investment value I'd go with the K frame; for durability pick whichever is most comfortable in your hand.

My K frames are 4" and 5".
Although I have a number of Ruger products none are DA revolvers.
So I really can't answer.

My .357 snub is an older Taurus 605, it's a 5 shot. If I need more than 5 I just reach into my pocket and produce a Ruger LCPII.

I had a 19 4" for many years & loved it.
Now I have a S&W 19 3" carry comp & love it more.
Accurate more than me, reduced felt recoil etc.
Just sayin.

If you're looking for something to carry around, the K frame definitely takes the cake when it comes to size and weight. But if you plan to shoot a lot, especially with those hotter loads, I’d say the GP100 is where it’s at.

I run 38 Special for target and 38 Special +P for carry when carrying a revolver. Steady digest of Magnum Loads wears on guns timing eventually. GP100 is closer to L Frame Smith but heavier.

I have a two and a half inch Model 19, but I've heard so many stories about forcing cones cracking from 357 use that I have relegated it to 38 special.

Since the GP100 is basically a Ruger copy of an L frame, I would make my choice between the two of them based on price. Smith & Wesson normally has a better action, but Smith and Wesson also normally costs more.

If I could afford a Smith, I would get it. I have an SP101 in 22. And a Model 18. The difference in the shootability of the guns is night and day. The Ruger is stronger, I'm absolutely sure. And it is stainless so I doubt that it will rust. But the Smith is so much nicer to shoot. And easier to hit with.
