Hello all. I live in rural Levy county and I'm just getting settled. I'm finding a lot to love about my new home. Good people, relaxed pace of life, plenty of open space, hunting, fishing, and a lot of live and let live going on. I'm looking forward to fall hunting. Between my son and I, we drew one archery hunt, one muzzleloader, and two rifle hunts. We're really hoping to put my grandson on his first deer this year with a muzzleloader or rifle hunt.

If this is who I think it is, glad to see ya join bud.

I've been to Cedar Key and Shell Mound. I'll check out the dam too. Thanks for the tip.
We will get that meeting & fishing day at Shell Mound or CK in the very near future. I'm hoping we can make it tomorrow, but its still up in the air. I have a buddy from up north comin on Monday & we're planning on a day at SM or CK on Wed & we can't do both days. Its too much, too far, too close together, then theres the cost of 2 trips in the same wk. I'll let you know if we can get together on whichever day we make it.

Shell Mound & Cedar key are the usual places we travel to go fishing from up here in north central Fl. Its well over 100mi each way, but its well worth the trip. I hit Rodney Dam too.

My brother & I fish Waccasassa Bay, Cedar Key water tower to the north, Duke Power plant to the south.

We launch at the Gulf Hammock boat ramp. Unfortunately, the recent hurricanes took out the channel markers and if you don't have a track in your GPS it is not easy the easiest area to navigate.

The state put up new markers about 5 years ago, but maybe 1 or 2 remain but they are well inshore.

Wife and love that area.
We plan on retiring up there in about 5 to 6 years if everything comes together.

Welcome for sure - haven't spent as much time there - but I want to as I hear it's some of that prestine Florida that I've read about.
There is still some left. I love hunting here, I know some folks do not. If l am lucky and bag some game that's great, if not, its still great. I just love hunt these Hammocks, Slough, Swamps and the river. You can see alot of really unique things. It's there if ya take the time to look.

I don't know if I've seen anything that I would call pristine. Even in the deep swamps, you can find evidence of logging or other past activities. But there is a lot of undeveloped land in a natural state. It's nice to experience it. On the gravel roads I like to drive I have seen deer, hogs, alligator, bobcat, turkey, coyote, squirrels, owls, hawks, water birds, etc. I'm optimistic about my future days of hunting and fishing here.
