Say Goodbye to Glock, Say Hello to Glock V

Glock was somewhat vague in its message, saying only, “The GLOCK V Series is here to establish a baseline of products while simplifying our processes.” We’ve contacted Glock for comment, but the most obvious answer is that this is in response to California bill AB 1127, which was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 16, 2025. AB 1127 effectively bans the sale of new Glock models (the handful that are still legally for sale in California), starting July 1, 2026.

California, already not the most gun-friendly state, passed AB 1127 in response to growing concerns over Glock “switches,” small, illegal devices that easily convert most Glock pistols to fire in full-auto mode

This Glock V thing really caught my attention. I've always admired how Glock sticks to the motto "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," so it’s surprising to see them make such a big change. When they mention it’s to "simplify processes," I can't help but think they're trying to navigate California's laws without completely overhauling their lineup.

It seems like AB 1127 is the real kicker here. I totally get the worries about illegal switches, but banning whole platforms because of a few bad apples? That just seems unfair. It feels more like punishing the tool rather than addressing the misuse. I’ve never used a switch and don’t plan to, but I love my Glocks, and it's frustrating to see laws pushing manufacturers into tight spots like this.
