Thoughts on carbon barrels

Your preference makes the decision, hunting is a no brainer..... lighter is better, benchrest ..... heavier is better..... my thoughts
I agree 100% with that. I try to keep my hunting guns between 7-8lbs finished weight, while my benchrest guns run from 13-16lbs

Had a neighbor who had a carbon barrel on a model 700 custom rifle. He swore by it. It made the gun extremely light. I run a savage apex stainless standard for my deer hunting and Remington 700 SPS and Savage 110 Tactical both with bull barrels for bench shooting.

Depends on how you shoot. If you shoot with a suppressor and want to keep the weight down, yes carbon wrapped barrels are worth it. If you don't shoot suppressed then no. A pencil contour barrel weighs less than a carbon wrapped barrel. But with a suppressor the carbon makes it stiffer which is ideal when adding weight (suppressor) to the end. Personally I shoot suppressed so I use carbon barrels. If you're considering changing to a carbon fiber barrel, make sure you look at your twist rates to go with the weight of the projectiles that you shoot or want to shoot.
