I have a friend from NJ arriving on the 18th. I became good friends with, through my home muzzleloading forum. I only get to see him once a yr for 3-4 days. So we go abit overboard getting ready for his trip down here. & we stock up on things to shoot beforehand. I have another close friend that I shoot with regularly, fish with regularly & I've turned him into an avid turkey hunter in his 50's. Hes a trained shooter & was a RSO. He will be here for a cpl days. So the 3 of us all shoot muzzleloaders from TC New Englander to TC White Mountain Carbine to modern inline .45's & smokeless muzzleloaders in .40 & .45. We've all bought a bunch of diff bullets, like we don't already have an exuberant amount as it is right.
So I've bought 100) 10mm 200g XTP's bc they shoot incredibly well ( sub moa ) out to 200yds in a 45/40 sabot, & its cheap. I have been wanting to test Hornady .452 245g Spire Point bullets in a cpl of my guns, both in a " bullet to bore & sabot applications. So I ordered a box of 50 of those. Today I bought 90) TC Shockwaves ( Hornady SST w/yellow poly tips ) in .452 250g for a pretty good deal. I can shoot those in a 50/45 sabot or in several of my .45 inlines & smokeless builds as well as the custom barrel liner I had put in my .50 TC New Englander. It now has a .45 1:18 twist barrel liner in it. I use T7 powder & I can shoot any modern jacketed bullet in .451/.452 ( I have adjustable bullet sizing dies & I custom size everything to fit my barrels bore dia. Its all pretty cool stuff. I have a bunch of lighter bullets in .40 & .45 that I push pretty fast too to shoot from 180g 10mm to .40 195g mono HP's. If anything, we'll have to damn many choices & that will be our worse prob of the day
I have a CVA Paramount that I had a .45 Lilja .45 1:16 twist 1.250"x5" shank heavy target barrel on it & upgraded the breech plug to where it can handle 60kpsi loads. So I shoot everything from those 250g .452's to 265g, 275g, 300g, 325, 350g, & 400g jacketed high BC bullets for smokeless muzzleloaders. Velocities can get to in the 2800fps - 3000fps pending on the bullet weight.
We are spending 2 full days on my 400yd backyard shooting range, then we're all 3 headed to Shell Mound or Cedar Key to go fishing together for the day. Thats a fairly long drive from me.
So lots of fun, lota n lots of shooting, I didn't even talk about either of my friends guns they are bringing. They all have piles of things to shoot too. Its going to sound like the civil war here for 2 solid days & I can't wait. I've got plenty of deer BBQ & deer burger to feed us & plenty of good German beer in the frig.
Sooooo, thats whats up round here. Headed out for beer & BBQ right now.
