Best 9mm Carry Ammo Recommendations

I've been reading a lot about different brands of 9mm ammo and the consensus seems to vary. What's your go-to for self-defense? I'm particularly interested in how the hollow points perform in real-life situations.

Federal HST or Speer Gold Dots are the current rage. I have the HST as I can find them at a great price right here in FL. I have some Remington Gokden Sabres that perform quite well in my hand loads but we all know about the articles on hand loads and self defense

Just don't start a caliber war. I think some are better than others ga1 has some good recommendations. I have a bunch of Corbon 115 gr +P in the XD. Not worried too much about heavy clothing down here. I have critical defense lite 100 gr in the max 9, Stuill playing ith what seems like the best ammo for it.
The best ammo is the one that hits where you want it to.

Most are pretty good these days. Most important might be what gun your shooting it from. A little LC9, P365 size gun or P226, 1911 in 9mm.

Decide what your going to use them for...I know self defense but, How much penetration do you want and through which kind of barriers you might use them. Do you live alone, or have family in the house with you. What are the loads you can control comfortably, standard, +p, +p+. As Diver43 said what size gun are you using, it will make a difference on control and accuracy.
I have full size S&W pistols I carry and stick with standard rounds. I also carry schp rounds. Penetration in gel for mine averages 13 inches at 10ft with denim 2 layers. Check you weapon is rated for the ammo you want to use. Try a few, $$$ to see which your gun likes best. Sorry I went on so long, but I learned from making the mistakes myself. Good luck.

Depends on the caliber for me... I use Federal Premium HSTs in 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. In 357 Sig, I use HSTs, Speer Gold Dots, Underwood Xtreme Defenders, and Underwood Bonded JHPs. But in 380 ACP, I only use Underwood Xtreme Defenders to ensure adequate penetration in that caliber.

I know of these, but I have not heard any reports about any one using in a real life situation. Seen the tests, but no reports on real life usage.

I live rurally, my ammo comes from the Ace Hardware in town, or the Ace in the next town down the line.
They carry what sells. I have seen Speer Gold Dot, and Underwood on their shelves but have not tried any.

My 9MM pistols are a 1974 Walther P-1 (alloy framed P-38) and a Taurus G3C.
At the moment I've got the Taurus loaded with plain old Winchester Super X 147 grain JHP.
I also have Hornady 115 grain Critical Defense on hand.

Truth be told, I'm just as comfortable carrying my Walther PPK (non S) loaded with flat point FMJ or one of my snub .38's.

My favorites, I lean more towards the Ranger T due to cost. I've been able to find them in boxes of 50 for less than 20 Gold Dots, or Hornadys.

Federal Gold Dot is what I carry in 9MM and 45 ACP Old days when it was around Black Talon but it got pulled off the market Ranger XLT is the same bullet

SPEER GOLD DOT 9MM+ 124 GR earlier was Federal Hydra Shock but most LE agencies in my old state seemed to go with Speer Gold Dot.
