Choosing between carbine and mid-length

For those putting together 16" ARs, is mid-length the go-to option, or are carbine systems still contenders?

Mid-length is the clear favorite among builders. If you walk into any gun shop, you'll notice that most of the quality 16" rifles are mid-length. Carbine gas systems tend to stick around mainly for budget builds or to keep parts interchangeable. The market has made it pretty obvious what shooters are leaning towards for that barrel length.

I've built four AR's two 16" and two 14.5 or .7 inch all mid-length. Would not go carbine for anything unless you have no choice.

$200 federal tax stamp fee for NFA items (suppressors, SBRs) was reduced to $0. While the cost is eliminated, you must still file ATF Form 1 to manufacture and 4 to possess, submit fingerprints, pass background checks, and wait for approval. The registration process remains mandatory. SBR's are legal in Florida providing you are registered with the ATF. Some other states such as California, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. Maryland: Allowed, but must meet specific requirements, such as a minimum overall length of 29 inches.

If you pin the flash hider/muzzle device and bring the barrel length to 16 inches there is no need to file with the ATF.
