Shorty ARs are nice but I totally get how they can be a pain to get running smoothly. I have a 10.5 and just adding an adjustable gas block fixed most of my issues. Without it, you’re just getting blasted with gas and feeling the recoil. I also went with a heavier buffer(H2 or H3) I think which made a big difference. Some folks get into those buffer springs but I kept it simple with a regular carbine spring and adjusted the buffer weight until it felt right. If you’re planning to suppress it, you pretty much have to tune the gas. Or else, it’s gonna be way too overgassed...
