Current Suppressor Wait Times for NFA Approvals

I'd love to hear what kind of wait times you guys are seeing for your suppressor approvals. Are you using eForms or paper submissions? Any tips for those of us navigating the NFA process for the first time?

Why would anybody buy a can - now?

If I buy a silencer today, and it cost me $1,000 (because they have gotten ungodly expensive for what they are), when I go to paper it I will have to pay a $200 tax.

But on New Year's Day, 2026, that tax goes away.

I think that the people that make silencers would be in a depression for the next 6 months. Cuz if I buy the $1,000 can today it's going to cost me $1,200, but if I wait till January it's only going to cost me a thousand. I can wait.

I recently purchased my first suppressor on a Tuesday. All E-forms. Picked it up Friday of same week. Even the store was impressed. The entire process was easy and done in person. I understand this provides the fastest times. Hope this helps.

Silencer Shop, Silencer Central, and Capitol Armory (probably a few more) are offering a "buy now/ file later) option. You pay today's price, but they hold the transaction to Jan 1 and file then. The wait time for the tax stamp is likely to be longer than it is now, but the price of the suppressor is locked in, now..

2 months ago when I purchased I had no clue of this. I honestly think I would've purchased anyway just because I wanted it now. I've been hearing / reading different views on this " no more tax stamp" . Where is the official statement from the ATF & what does it say?

I don't know about the official ATF statement, but here is H. R. 1 - the Big Beautiful Bill.

(Sec. 70436) This section eliminates the $200 excise tax imposed on the transfer of certain firearms other than machine guns and destructive devices. As a result, the $200 excise tax is not applicable to silencers, short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns.
