On Saturday my friend & I took the canoe to Shell mound, which we do a cpl times a month. The water level was up even at low tide & the current was gittin it.
We caught a lot of live shrimp in our cast nets & launched from the campground at Shell mound. We fished out in the deeper water in front of the pier, but fish were tailing in the flats & grass beds. They turned out to be big redfish. No black drum was seen at all.
Just a lot of bull reds. They weren't hitting the shrimp, but we both caught big Lady Fish & I chunked them up for the reds. They hit that cut lady fish all day long. I boated 3 big reds, all within the slot. The biggest one was 27" on the money.
We caught a few short reds & my friend had 2 big reds in a row break his line. He caught a short speckled trout & of course we caught more than our share of small catfish.
It was an incredible day on the water in a canoe. We kept our 1 fish each, which I filleted them both at the campground.
Here's some of the nice reds I caught.

For reds in those flats, try a weedless gold spoon on a 15 lb braid, it glides over grass without snagging. Paddle to the edges of grass beds at high tide, that is where they ambush baitfish. Awesome pictures, btw.

Good thing that 27 inch fish didn't sink your canoes haha
Sounds like a good day and probably a good memory to remember over the years.
Why/how would a little 27" fish sink the canoe?
It was a fantastic day of fishing.
Fancy set up: not even close.
My friend uses nothing but a sinker & a hook & I'll use the same for bottom fishing or I'll use a knock bobber with both live & artificial baits.

Yeah, great question haha. I was joking. Never fished in a canoe...

Both my friend & I gave extensive time in a canoe & in numerous places & types of water. We've both caught big fish from the canoe.
We draw the line at shark fishing from the canoe though.
Well do " exciting " we try not to do " stupid ". Not lookin for our Darwin Award.
It's peaceful & fun.
Oh, I knew you were joking.
