The Glockstore and Ben Stoger announced today what they have heard. Glock will cease manufacture of Gen 3-5 November 30th with the exception fo the slim line Glock 43, 43X and 48 due to lawsuits for Glocks being able to accept Glock Switch's. New models of Glock called the Glock V will be produced that will not be able to be altered to full auto.

Glock was somewhat vague in its message, saying only, “The GLOCK V Series is here to establish a baseline of products while simplifying our processes.” We’ve contacted Glock for comment, but the most obvious answer is that this is in response to California bill AB 1127, which was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 16, 2025. AB 1127 effectively bans the sale of new Glock models (the handful that are still legally for sale in California), starting July 1, 2026.

California, already not the most gun-friendly state, passed AB 1127 in response to growing concerns over Glock “switches,” small, illegal devices that easily convert most Glock pistols to fire in full-auto mode

This Glock V thing really caught my attention. I've always admired how Glock sticks to the motto "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," so it’s surprising to see them make such a big change. When they mention it’s to "simplify processes," I can't help but think they're trying to navigate California's laws without completely overhauling their lineup.

It seems like AB 1127 is the real kicker here. I totally get the worries about illegal switches, but banning whole platforms because of a few bad apples? That just seems unfair. It feels more like punishing the tool rather than addressing the misuse. I’ve never used a switch and don’t plan to, but I love my Glocks, and it's frustrating to see laws pushing manufacturers into tight spots like this.

Glock Perfection or Glock Protection?

So, what’s the deal? Glock’s saying it’s all about “future innovation and growth.” They’re hyping up the V Series, giving the impression of carrying their legacy forward with some fancy upgrades. But let’s be real-there’s a bigger story here, and it’s called the “Glock switch;" those illegal little “giggle switches,” as they are often called, that turn a semi-auto handgun into a full auto. Their increase in availability and social media popularity has drawn a lot of negative attention for their use in gang-related shootings; especially in places like Chicago, Memphis, Baltimore and Philadelphia. Because of this, cities and states are hitting Glock with lawsuits, claiming their designs make it too easy to slap on a switch. While Glock has not made formal statement about these switches being the primary reason for the manufacturing overhaul, the V Series internal makeover would make those switches useless. Is Glock possibly making this move to keep the lawyers at bay? It goes without saying that Glock is playing defense, and this move may be part of that strategy.
