Thinking of getting out of Palm Beach County and moving up to the panhandle. Maybe like Washington County area. Any input to think about. We are both up there in years (75). Selling the place down here should produce enough to pay cash up there. Want some land 1-2 acres. Any warnings etc. Especially about weather, bugs, hospitals and other things.

Wouldn't expect hospitals in that county to be great...
Winter weather will be considerably cooler than what you have now...
Guessing bugs are about the same as what you have...
That county seems sparcely populated and somewhat depressed though I may be wrong about that.

I'm in Walton County, just West of Washington County and I'm 86+++. The Northern part of the County is Rural while the southern (beach areas) part is crowded. Eglin AFB owns a large amount of the County, so real-estate prices can be high in the Southern (Beach) parts. Modern hospitals are common in the populated areas and Emergency Care Centers are located throughout the rural areas. Ambulance service is common throughout the County, and Senior Citizen Centers are popping up everywhere. Our Wx is a bit cooler than Southern FL, but we normally only have 2 cold months - January & February. On the other hand we don't get as hot as the Southern FL. folks during the remaining 10 months of the year. The AFB allows us to hunt on a large part of their land , so lots of places to hunt/fish - also some shooting ranges available.. Washington County is just East of me and is more rural because there is no AFB or Beaches. I-10 runs East & West through most of the Panhandle Counties making travel in those directions easier. We don't get as much hurricane activity as Middle FL. does, but one seeks us out every-now-and-then... I'll try to answer any other questions that you might have.. Good luck

Not exactly the same but I now live in Live Oak, about 200 miles east but still on I-10. Weather here is cooler in winter we have actually gotten snow once since 2016 when we relocated here from LaBelle, but we do have chiller weather mostly in Jan and Feb. Over here we are very much in "Old" Florida, cattle and tree farms. A lot of bugs here but I live on a 38 acre tree farm, worst are the fire ants compared to the crazy ants we had in LaBelle. Good luck on what you decide.

Thanks. Palm Beach County is getting crowded nowhere near the place we moved to 1978. Thinking about the move but family is here and as older folks (Don't laugh at that since your are 86++ but leaving 30 year doctor relationships and all is a big move. And as older folks docs and hospitals are an important consideration. Mom grew up in Wewahitchka so maybe be I need to come home. Red Rabbit still up there?
