You're absolutely right about the beauty of wood and real steel. I have a Stainless Ruger that doesn't have a Mark designation and a Blue Mark I Target, plus assorted other Ruger .22s.
Hang in there and keep looking for more Mark Is.

I too, prefer wood/metal and have always liked the Ruger No. 1. My go to hunting rifle for the past 30 years has been this No. 1-A in 7x57 Mauser.

Ruger 1-A Resized.webp

I don't have a No 1, but learned to appreciate and enjoy a single shot when attending a Gun n Ammo shoot in Tennessee several years ago. The No 1 truly is a piece of art

I love the No 1s have 2 of them 22-250 & 257 Roberts also had a 204 ruger but was stolen years ago when was flying back from Wyoming prairie dog hunting it never came off the plane when we landed 😭 my weakness is the first Generation M77s and the M77 Hawkeye Compact youths pre-2010

I have the no. 1 in 280 and a 257 roberts, 2 m77 tang safety (mk 1) 280 and a 308 target from 1970 with the factory McGowan 24 inch peened barrel i shoot the 308 in vintage competition , I respect the old days and your appreciation for those classics

I love the look of the #1 I don't currently own any, but I took a #3 in 375 win as trade and just recently took in a m77 rsi in 223 that is stunning but it won't have a place in my safe for long. Here is a pic of the m77 rsi
Thats an rsi tropical, very nice. I owned a blued version in 308 but I found it had inherent issues with heating up when shooting. I sold it for that fact. I love the 223 you have, elegant!

It is a beauty but with the gun show next weekend I'm hoping it will have a new home..

My boss always played golf with wooden drivers even though the rage was all the composites. He said the new composites just weren't the right way to play. Even having a hideous and evil black rifle the wood and steel is still beautiful.

I agree Winchester models 70pre-64 with wood stock is the way to go. Composites are good if you’re going to Alaska and you’re going to be in the rain for days at a time because the wood can warp and distort your point of aim.

You really should keep an eye out for those rare calibers and limited editions. They're becoming pretty tough to track down. The medium Sporter and Tropical models have definitely got their own fanbase, and for good reason, people are loving them.
