Yesterday morn I was telling my friend that wanted to turkey hunt here Sat morn that there is no point in hitting my brush blind bc there hasn’t been a turkey on the property in a good 2 months & im not willing to screw with the deer movement for turkey that aren’t friggin here.
Then I had 2 other convos regarding the same subject. About 30 min later, I’m sittin in the recliner watchin the field texting with a cpl buddy’s when 6 black blobs start moving in the very overgrown field. It turns out to be 3 Jakes, 2 barely gobblers & 1 decent gobbler. I grab my box call & go out the front door ( out of view ) and hit the call a few times. I head back into the fam rm to watch them & they actually did start making their way towards the house. 3 of them hung up out of range & the 3 Jakes walked into the yard just 20yds from the porch.
I went back out the front door with the box call & hit it a cpl more times. They were totally silent but they all headed into the front yard to have a look for that bird.
My turkey gun is made by Knight rifles & it’s designed to be a 12ga mag equivalent jug choked barrel specifically for extended range turkey hunting.
It’s called the TK2000 ( TK - turkey Killer ) and with a heavy TSS load & a damn hot T7ff powder charge, the gun is capable of smashing turkey out to 100yds.
I have patterned mine from 20, 30, 40, 50, & 60yds. But my 60yd pattern shows me that I’m still good to go out to 75yds easily.
Sooo, the TK2000 was still loaded & primed from the spring season & leaning up against the fam rm wall right next to my CVA Accura V2 .45 & my latest .45 smokeless Omega muzzleloaders ready for action.
I grabbed the TK, turned on the red dot & I ran out the garage door to meet them.
The first group of 3 had already made it into the driveway about 50yds away & when I poked my head & the TK around the corner of the house, they saw me & they all stopped to look. It took me a sec to determine that the bird I wanted was one of them & they started running. I had to wait for them to get past a cpl trees & I put the chevron on the gobblers head & pulled the trigger. When the smoke cleared, there were 2 birds down at 60yds.
The damn Jake ran into the shot & got dropped too.
I had to finish them off, but DANG! That was friggin COOL!
Not seein a single bird in months to tagged out either 1 shot from a BP shotgun. It don’t get no cooler than that.
The spurs & bears on the gobbler are 1” & 10.5”.
I skinned them both out & deboned them & tossed out both rather clean carcasses.
I filled 4) 1gal freezer bags with half a turkey in each.
