The process is pretty similar for both guns but I’ve found that pistols definitely need more frequent checks. With rifles, I can usually zero it, confirm at a distance and it stays good for a while unless I’m changing the optic or if something gets bumped. But with pistol dots, I’m checking the zero way more often, especially if it’s a carry gun that’s getting tossed around daily. The smaller sight radius and how much movement can affect the point of impact on a handgun means that even a tiny shift is more noticeable. My routine is simple, I’ll do an initial zero at around 10 or 15 yards, confirm it at 25 and then just check it every few range trips or if the gun takes a knock. For rifles, I usually confirm at 50 or 100 yards, depending on what I’m using it for.
