Good morning to all.
I was wondering if anyone here hunts with Traditional Muzzleloaders. Flint or Percussion?
If so what game do you hunt?
What Traditional Muzzleloaders do you use?
Thanks.

I hunt with muzzleloaders all season long but only with modern inline & smokeless muzzleloaders.
I only have 1 percussion sidelock & its got a fast twist barrel liner in it & I shoot modern jacketed bullets & sabot loads out of it. That whole " traditional " thing, soooo - not my thing. I'm hoping to meet more ppl into modern inlines & custom smokeless muzzleloaders to talk shop with.
Why not create a thread for all muzzleloaders in here, not just limited to traditional roundball shooters? Blah!

I was hoping to find some fellas close to my area and possibly go squirrel hunting with traditional muzzleloaders. Rifle or shotgun.
I'm not interested in modern/custom muzzloaders. I haven't used my TC inline for 20 years.
You could have started a Modern Muzzleloader and Custom Smokeless Muzzleloader Thread. Or an All Types of Muzzleloader Hunting Thread.

Everyone is welcome to post here no matter what they hunt with.

I think I will start a modern muzzleloader/smokeless muzzleloader thread indeed. I didn't think that this forum really needed to have separate muzzleloader sections, but if there has to be that "line in the sand", I will be on the modern/smokeless side of it where I belong.

Niner, by no means am drawing a line in the sand. I didn't join this Fourm to do that.
If someone would of posted, " I don't get into traditional muzzleloading, but do get into modern muzzleloading." I would have been happy to see the post. and probably replied about what he shoots and hunts.
Again I figured there might a some folks close by that might like to go squirrel hunt at of the local WMA.
No line drawn be me.

I drag my .76 Brown Bess repro around the wood as often as I can, but haven't been able to damage anything with it yet.🤣

I also hunt with an armsport.45 percussion longrifle, small enough for squirrels, big enough for deer. In theory, anyway.

Recently got a couple of original percussion shotguns, a single 10 ga, and a double 13 ga, (still working on that one) I'm really looking forward to using them in the woods.

Cheers!

Good evening, Keith.
Nice selection of muzzleloaders ya got there.
How do you like that Bess? I'll bet it make shot work on a big ole gobbler.
Jim Kibler is going to be offering a Brown Bess Kit sometime next year. His kit are real fun to assemble.
Nice mess of shotguns. Really nice.
I have a few shotguns and a Fowler and a .58 smoothbore.
When I squirrel hunt I use one of my .32s one percussion the other a flintlock, and my little CVA Brittany Double Barrel Percussion .410. Love that little thing.
Thanks for posting. I hope ya get to damage something with that Big Ole Bess.

Cool GSM, glad to hear that. TY for your reply. I didn't take offense by any means, & though you didn't draw the proverbial " line in the sand " here, we both know very well that in the forums & the real shooting community that there is a very big, very definitive line in the sand between most " traditionalists " and all other muzzleloader shooters. I'm proudly as far from a "traditionalist" as one can get, and still be shooting a muzzleloader. I'm happy to openly & intelligently talk all things muzzleloader, with all of those capable of doing the same. Well wishes

I love it, a 46in barrel is something else in a tree, I tell you!
When I started using it, what really surprised me was that the weight bothered me a lot more than the length. I'll remember that when I get around to building my own smoothbore someday.
Are your .32s kits?

One is a Kibler SMR Kit. Love putting it together. 44" swamped barrel.

The other is a Crockett Rifle. Factory assembled.

Both are very accurate. I've not shot much more than 30 to 35 yards. Cheap to shoot also.

Niner, what type of modern muzzleloaders do you hunt with.
What game do you hunt?
Do you hunt private land, public lands, or both?
What do you use for a propellant?

I've hunted with the whole TC inline progression up to the Omegas. I've had several of them & they are one of my fav hunting muzzleloaders & to have midrange capable smokeless conversions done with them.
I have a cpl of them in .40 & .45 smokeless now. In 2019 I got my first two CVA's. An Accura V2 .45 which has been my main sabot shooter that I deer & turkey hunt with from my self climber. And I got my first of what is now 3 Paramounts which have all gotten custom smokeless conversions done to them. They all 3 are one-off one of a kind builds. I have 2 of them set up for 1000yd bench rest shooting in 2 calibers.
I have a Knight TK2000 12ga BP shotgun that I turkey hunt with bc I can get 3"mag performance with T7 powder & modern shot cups with TSS & I have a 70yd effective kill range & the use of a very nice red dot. I recently sold my Pedersoli 12ga SxS
I'm staying on fam property, its not " huge, but its enough to shoot deer, turkey, rabbit, the occasional Coyote & Bobcat & no armadillo is safe. I target shoot a lot & I do a lot of various bullet testing, sabot & bullet combination testing & load developement on the 400yd backyard shooting range. The only thing I don't have that I want is hogs to shoot & a longer shooting range than 400yds.
I bought a TC New Englander that had a .45 1:18 barrel liner in it just for taking as a beater gun for WMA hog hunting.
I have a full custom match grade English Rigby tribute .50 set up as a 500yd bench rest target shooter with heavy cast conicals & T7 powder.
The propellents I use are T7 in my ROA pistol & BP shotgun & in both of my percussion sidelocks. In my inlines its BH209 & in the smokeless conversions & full customs its the exact same as centerfire reloading, the powders I use depend on the caliber, & bullet weight, type of ignition system & breech plug I have & what barrel shank dia I am using & what pressure I need to stay within.

Fine write up. You have a nice verity of muzzleloaders. You seems very knowledgeable with muzzleloading. I appreciate that. I'm sure I'll look up some of the guns you listed above. Ya got my interest. Not saying I'm going to buy one and hunt with it, but I'd like know more about them.
Sounds like ya have a nice little place to hunt and shoot. I have a very small patch of woods that I can hunt squirrel and hog. No deer or turkey. Lot of squirrels, hogs are hit and miss. I shoot out back. Right now I can get 50 yards. This fall and winter in going to clear out some undergrowth and get up 100yds.
Appreciate you posting.
